Sorry, Steve is about Steve, a middle-aged man living out of his van who attempts to reconnect and get help from a distanced friend. This is a story about the people we keep in our lives, but especially those we keep at a distance. Steve’s struggle exemplifies the difficult nature of community and healthy boundaries, a character study that finds the crux between empathy and aversion. Together we discover the problem that surrounds this character: he is deserving of empathy and simultaneously impossible to help. By the end, it’s difficult to tell if we’re saying “Sorry” to Steve, or if Steve is saying it to us.
